Auchumpkee Creek Covered Bridge, Thomaston, GA

Auchumpkee Creek Covered Bridge, Thomaston.

This is rebuilt covered bridge located on Allen Road which runs between SR-3/19 and SR-80. The bridge was originally built in 1892 and was constructed as a Town lattice truss bridge. Damaged by Tropical Storm Alberto in 1994, it was restored in 1997. The bridge is closed to vehicular traffic.

There is a concrete bridge for vehicular traffic across the creek. The concrete bridge is a spot to take photos of the bridge and its surrounding area. But be careful since the concrete bridge does not have a sidewalk. On the side where the bike photo is taken, there’s enough space to park up and enjoy a picnic.

Thomaston, GA, about 11 miles from the bridge is worth  visiting at leisure. I didn’t have enough time on the day I rode to bridge. The mural (picture below) caught my attention and I had to get a picture of my bike against that backdrop.
